First boring post in a boring blog....

I'm planning on getting my orks assembled and painted soon, as well as a rabid and desperate acquisition of the various GW miniatures I like, before the moulds break and GW, like the slathering money hungry beast it is, abandons Specialist Games and the thousands of loyal and dedicated fans they have

I'm planning on picking up multiple armies, starting with Eldar and Imperial Guard, I've got some shopping lists written, now it's a case of attempting to obtain the necessary cash to buy what I like.... not so easy, especially at GW prices... I'm glad that there are so many community members producing stuff which puts the majority of GW and even FW stuff to shame, I'm taking a leap here, getting into a game system which is no longer supported by its originator and is now developed by a community which seems to spend an inordinate amount of time squabbling over details and getting into personal arguments....

at least when GW was using the game to hawk miniatures nobody complained excessively.... but what do I know, I've still not played an epic scale game since Space Marine/Titan Legions....

peace

The weather in Malta

Over here in Malta the weather is warm and sunny, and the bulbs and stuff think that it's spring, the hyacinth has flowered, the friesia and irises have popped out, and the skeletons are peering up from their graves. Yes, it's undead time again, with Khemri flavour. The local club has once again attracted me to wargaming, and as my Khemri rulebook is still valid, and my Khemrians are assembled, it's speed-painting time. Anyway, building a Warthammer army is on my list to do for 2011, so....

Now where are those rules for tunnelling Rhinos....?

On a different note, I have belatedly discovered Mantic Games. These nice people have:
1) Alessio Cavatore from GW (!)
2) nice and very reasonably priced models (30quid for 60 skeletons complete with carrying cases!)
3) free rules and army lists!
Not bad, eh?

cheers,
J

Ending on a pfutt...

So, its been a quiet month since my last post here, and I bet that you - my loyal reader - is wondering what I have managed to do through December. Well, the trust is, not a lot, really!

Painting has been very slow this month, with no real progress made so far. That said, I am not concerned as my 2011 Challenge doesnt officially start until next week, and the work left to do for the prelude section is assembly of the Space Hulk miniatures, which I will attempt to get done in the small ammounts of down-time that I get. In addition, my first dealing with the Space Hulk minis is in February when 11 Genestealers are up for painting, and those are already assembled. So, I am quietly confident despite going into the challenge already behind.

Things have been quite busy in other areas - ie work - and I have additionally had other things to get done. The EpiComp10? submission deadline flew past, and the gallery for that went up. In addition, I am working on finally getting the web site up and running in a more permanent and professional (I hope) way. More on that in the future. This has meant that I just have not had time for things like my Nutshell podcast installment or any real gaming or painting.

There are two other things that have occupied my mind this month. Firstly, Dystopian Wars. I dont own a VSF/Steampunk game, or a Spartan Games system. That said, I like the miniatures for this system, and have decided to tentatively get into it. I have selected the Prussians as my main DW force.... along with the Japanese as a secondary force.... and probably the Italians... although I was tempted by the idea of the Russians.... and the Antarctic.... I will have to see what the forces are like beyond the initial four, but I suspect that I will go with the Italians. I have also placed a small speculative order for a pack of Prussian cruisers and a pack of Prussion frigates from Maelstrom Games, just to see how they are like in reality and how well they paint up. We will see where this foray ends up, but it looks like a fun game that I will get a few bits for.

Secondly, and on a non-wargaming front, I have been getting quite heavily into Macross. This has involved me working my way through the original SDF series online, picking up the Frontier and Zero series on dvd, and importing far too many of the figures than I should from Japan! Expensive, but really nice figures indeed.

So, all the best to you, dear reader, for 2011 and my next update should signal the starting pistol for the 2011 Challenge in ernest! Wish me luck.

I has armies!

As far as I knew (until this morning), I only had 2 WH40K and 1WH armies assembled and painted. In the case of Epic I have always been painting without achieving anything - or so i thought! Whilst unpacking stuff I realised that although they are very ill-defined and poor in composition, I have enough finished stuff for an Imperial army (Titans, IG, marines, Inquisition and Squat allies, the latter in the old Epic Space Marine Imperium-oriented format) and Orks.
I never realised I have so many models painted - so I guess that I'm - well - pleased :)
cheers all.

The name of my new Warlord.
It's a mouthful, especially in Latin.
But the techs have coded its name for communications, and the abbreviation (still longish) is the name by which it remains known to the countless millions of citizens of the Imperium:
GrandICer ;)

All because it has a horned head; it DOES look manga though.

Warhound and Warlord

Not to be outdone by Cybershadow, who's busy assembling Genestealers, I've assembled the first of my Warhounds (to my surprise I found out there are 6, not 4, in my pile o' Warhound bits - yay!) and started painting it. Seeing there was also a small assortment of Warlord weapons I decided to assemble one, seeing I had also found one of these beasties. I used one of my old, metal heads for this one, who started to look slightly manga-like, and my choice of weapons is - ah - unusual, I dare say, and probably illegal! Who cares, I like the way he turned out and had fun messing around, so......
He too is now painted red.
To help the Squats out I painted 4 Battlecars, red again.

By 'painted', incidentally, I mean the first layer of basecoat. Still, it's a start.

Meanwhile, one of the cats has chewed up a pair of ear phones. The cheap variety, luckily; so the Tau now have two new vehicles......

Late in getting ahead....

No, I have not forgotten about this! I have, in fact, finally finished the task set for October 2010.... OK, I will admit, not entirely on time, but it is done, and I am happy with that. The thing is, I am not going to beat myself up for two main reasons. Firstly, the prelude months in 2010 are really there to give myself a head start, and to stop me looking over a load of things that I want to get on with and wont let myself because it would 'be cheating'. In theory, I should be constructing the Genestealers in the same month that I am painting them, but I have set aside the prelude months to construct the Space Hulk Miniatures in advance. If I dont get this done, then I can live with that, and they will be there to assemble at any time before the painting month for them. January will start on time, no matter how far 'behind' I am, and the prelude stuff that I dont manage to get done before the start of 2011 will always be there to catch up on at any time.

The second reason is that this is going to be fun. There are no promises here, and this is just because I want it done, but I am not going to turn it into a chore. Besides, even with eleven models assembled in about 6 weeks, thats still better than 'normal'!

So, proof of the Genestealers being done...

But, that is not all! Oh no! Not only have I managed to assemble all eleven models (gasps from the crowd!), but I also put together the 3000 EA Ork list that I will be using. I will be the first to admit that this is not an optimised list. I have tried to strike a balance between working well enough on the table (if its going to take me over a year to get done, I dont want to have to start again as soon as I am finished!) and being interesting the use and paint. In addition, I picked up some EA Ork Fighta-Bombas and Flak Wagons from Forge World, and I think that I have found some cool stand-in models for the Stompas and Supa-Stompa that I will need (I dont much like the official minis).

In addition, two and a half of the three EA Ork Objectives are assembled from a previous attempt at this, and a few stands of Stormboyz.

More updates when I have them!

Project Warhound

As reported on Epicommms, I managed to dig up some stuff for Project Warhound.

This will not be a strictly-to-the-list army (typical), but a fun project as these usually work out much better.
I'll be including some Titans, knights, and a few Ad Mech vehicles and troops; with extra-added Squat allies - these will allow my Titans to join up with my old, old Squatachan army, which is very old school and includes commissars with the Squats - er - Squatachans. The latter are green, the titans typical Ad Mech red (like my old Legio Mechanatos), with some metal/grey/black variants and a handful of red and green vehicles to bridge the two halves of the force. Marines will be added later, and will include Angels of Fire, Red Giants and Legio Fausta. To top the lot off will be the Inquisition, with any spare guard models added, and a minute amount of Tau allies. Messy? Yes, but it's the only way I'll manage to keep this alive.
I'll also be adding some rather special 'Warhounds'...now if only I could find the pics (these are painted, and will not be part of my pledge).

Meanwhile - Tau allied transport, old models these - the Crayfish transport on top, followed by the Vespid Drone below:

Cheers all.

December Dog Days

Bean a while, time to wipe off the dust and get back to the blog, with some news.
I'm too lazy to type it all over again, and even too lazy to copy and paste, so go here.

And this time there's no way I'll get out of completing an army.
I called this Project Warhound, for what I'm claiming to be the December Dog Days 91st to 7th December), which makes no sense really if you know what dog days are. But it's mildly, alliterative, see, a bit like this:

Þa cwom Wealhþeo forð
gan under gyldnum beage, þer þa godan twegen
sæton suhterge-fæderan; þa gyt wæs hiera sib ætgædere,
æghwylc oðrum trywe.

Mystified?

It's en extended pun of sorts.....

Standard flu

Flu (or a bad cold, anyway) always happens this time of year. Anyway, it gave me time to work (only from home instead of at Uni)....huh.
But I managed a couple of pics.

Here's the new workbench - nice sunlit room, and I even have a plant on the table!

If you go all the way down the stairs....

... you get to storage box number one (complete with its satellite):

Those are 40K space marines you can see. I still need to reorganize the way they are standing inside, as I can fit more stuff in. But for the time being the important thing is I managed to empty the battlebarge (my tool box for model transport) for new trips from the old house.
Cheers all.
